I am sitting here going through all the tweets I have received tonight and I came across this:
scott foley (@scottkfoley) tweeted at 8:37 PM on Mon, Mar 25, 2013: How is it 2013 and we’re still debating marriage equality? Or for that matter, any equality?
It’s a great question. No matter what angle you look at it, there is absolutely no sane reason for it. Well I guess there is, such as plain old run of the mill ignorance. You cannot play the ‘God’ card. Every religion I am familiar with overwhelmingly states that God is perfect, doesn’t make mistakes. You cannot use the ‘Nature’ card. Science shows almost every species on the planet show some homosexual activity.
Fear is the biggest reason. Fear of the unknown. Fear of change. Just that, plain old ordinary fear.
I know many gay and lesbian couples, with kids, that are more stable and loving than most straight couples in my life. What most don’t see is that it isn’t about sex. The heart wants what it wants. A person is attracted to who they are attracted to. It is innate in a persons nature.
Someone very wise once told me,” why shouldn’t they be as miserable as the rest of us”! My dad had a kinda twisted sense of humor. But he was actually being sincere.
Equal Rights under law should mean something. And by the way, I’m straight.
