Step Aside Jocks, The Nerds Have Taken Over

Science, science, science.  That is all everyone is talking about these days. Unless you are completely off the grid, or hiding under a rock, in NY the UN Climate Summit, with emmesaries from around the world, has just concluded. Then there is what is happening down in the great states of Texas. There the Politicians are attepting to change the science curriculums, wanting to take out scientific theory on the causes of Climate Change.  Apparently the Christian Right’s views on science are more accurate.

Science, when I was a kid, was the universe of the pocket protector class, the geeks, the nerds.  Putting up with being the butt of pratical jokes and pranks was a daily way of life.  (OK, I admit I was one of them, except it was Math and English. It was the 80’s) The Jocks and their cheerleader girlfriends ruled the kingdom that was highschool. Popularity was the name of the game while getting good grades and actually learning something was treated as second hand.

After a bit of time, the new millenium came along. Technology was run amuck.  Tech degrees were coming out of the woodwork and intellecutal abilities were the way to get the best jobs.  Many of the jobs from 20 and 30 years prior that required hard manual labor were now considered as obsolete as yesterdays gadgets.

Now nerds are the Kings of the perverbial castle.  For example, 2 come to mind, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.  These are two men I can say almost literally ruled the world.  Everyone on the planned who is or was plugged in waited with baited breathe they next anouncement, either for the newest piece of software or the next must have gadget.  Billions in the bank, but at their core still nerds.  I wonder what the jocks they went to highschool with as saying now.
