Friday, June 26, 2015 was a day I never thought would finally come. The nation exploded. The Supreme Court of the United States of America sent down a decision that changed this countries political and moral landscape, Marriage Equality is the ‘Law of the Land’.
It actually came as a bit of a surprise for a few. With 5 conservatives out numbering 4 liberals on the court, many on the Right thought they had it locked that SCOTUS would shoot down the case for gay marriage. Many on the left had all 10 fingers and 10 toes crossed hoping and praying for a miracle. Then on Friday morning, while holding their breath, everyone from both sides got their answer. From Justice Kennedy came the ruling.
What I hoped would happen within my lifetime has now come to pass. No matter who a people love, no one has the right to dictate to them how they can spend their lives. They have the right to proclaim in the eyes of all that they devote their lives to each other.
That feeling of victory lasted for about 90 seconds before the Right Wing Whack Jobs came out of the woodwork. Like toddlers that didn’t get what they wanted for their birthday, the temper tantrums spewed.

And…
And from Mike Huckabee (Apparently our country’s spiritual director)
And..
And those are the tame ones. The far right bet the bank on a horse that didn’t win, let alone place or show. While on the other side there was jubilation. Corporations temporarily changed logos to include rainbow colors in support. The hashtag #LoveWins took over social media. Even the White House did its thing in all its glory.
For me, I guess I just don’t understand where the hate and bitterness comes. This ruling doesn’t impact those who were and are in opposition. It doesn’t affect them the slightest bit. They will still love their families. They will still live there lives. Just because members of the LGBT community can now enter a courthouse and sign and piece of paper and make a vow (whether in from of a judge or member of the clergy) doesn’t change their lives.
But when looking back at past decisions that SCOTUS has passed down or laws passed Congress, the same types of reactions showed their ugly mugs. Let’s see, there was abolishment of slavery, women getting the right to vote, passing of the Civil Rights Act, and don’t forget ‘ObamaCare’ (which SCOTUS just upheld AGAIN on Thursday), just to name a few doozies.
All I can say to those having a fit, GET OVER IT! GET THERAPY! TAKE A PILL! BUT GET OVER IT. STOP BEING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY. YOU’VE ONLY PROVEN YOU SUCK AT IT!!!
