Woke up on this fine Saturday morning to take my car to get it fixed. My headlights went out. Kinda hard to drive at night without them. When I went to sit in the waiting room, there was one other person there. An older gentleman, camo jacket on. One thing I have learned is to never judge a person by what they wear. I said ‘Good Morning’ to him, and he replied in kind with the same.
He started flipping through the channels on the TV in the room. Of course there was nothing on, which he noted aloud. That was when the small talk began. He talked for a while and I listened. It seemed as though he hadn’t done that in a while, at least with someone who was interested in hearing what he had to say. His entire life story was out in the open for me to hear, from his childhood to what he did last night. A look of gratification was on his face followed by a smile. Reminiscing seemed to comfort him.
It is ok to let others come before me. It can be just as comforting to me to see that smile on another’s face.
